Were this site pared down to a single element, it would be this collection of images - the "Best of Southeast Asia." Southeast Asia, in addition to being interesting for its history and culture, is a wonderful region for photography. The region boasts an abundance of ancient architecture, amazing landscapes and scenery, vibrant colors, and - perhaps most significantly - human beings blessed with character and beauty. While numerous subjects are depicted, this show is built upon the faces of the region's people. It is because of them that you read these words - because of them that this site exists.

The 200 images included in this show depict the region as captured during a five-month trip in 2003. Countries represented include Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Consistent with the theme of this site, the show focuses upon the best of Southeast Asia and that which makes it wonderful and unique. Beauty can be found in every corner of the globe; one simply must know where - and how - to look.

I have consciously decided not to provide a lot of history here - there's simply too much to cover. You will pick up historical context along the way, but I'd recommend the shows depicting individual countries if you wish to explore history in any detail. For example, you'll see hints of Burma's colonial past in the commentary here - but I've provided no overall summary of the country's history (which is very important for understanding the situation in Burma today). The "Mingalaba, Myanmar!" show includes just that.

If you're new to the site, launch the show by selecting the [Start Show] link at bottom left. From there, navigation should be fairly simple (although a help page is accessible via the Control Panel if questions arise - several helpful shortcuts and tips are included as well). Be sure to view enlarged versions of those images that pique your interest. While I've kept the image quality high - perhaps frustrating a few of you with slow connections - I have included as many download status indicators as possible. For those seeking a little geographical context, don't miss the "mapping" feature identifying the location of every photo. Incidentally, buttons will occasionally be disabled (you will see visual cues) when large images or maps are unavailable.
